Andrew Murnin’s goal helped leaders Armagh to another victory in Division 3 of the Allianz League and they now look primed for promotion after a success against Derry on Saturday evening.
Kieran McGeeney’s side made it five wins from five outings at the Athletic Grounds.
Armagh trailed by 0-8 to 1-4 at half-time, but they fought back in the second-half and showed massive determination to move closer to the second tier.
Murnin’s goal arrived in the 17th minute when he was sharpest to latch onto a rebound off the post, and finish to the Derry net. But Derry were the dominant side before half-time and Emmett Bradley scored a free to send them in with a one-point lead at the interval.
On the resumption Niall Rowland and Murnin scored crucial points to give Armagh an advantage. A Rory Grugan free gave them a five-point lead as the hosts took over heading into the closing stages, and Derry could not find an adequate response.
Armagh’s remaining games are both away from home to Fermanagh next Sunday and Wexford.
