Armagh GAA Christmas Family Fun Day

The Armagh County Board hosted a very successful community Christmas fun day for local children and families as part of an ongoing good relations outreach programme, thanks to funding from Cooperation Ireland. The free fun day on Sunday 14 December welcomed local people from all sections of our community and saw over a hundred families visit the Athletic Grounds in Armagh city to join in the festive fun. As well as an arts workshop to design Christmas decorations, the children also participated in an Irish language singing workshop where they learnt the words to Bualadh Bos or Jingle Bells and were also treated to a number of Christmas songs in Latvian and Lithuanian. Those in attendance also enjoyed a tour of the Athletic Grounds stadium and a Christmas themed disco. However, the highlight of the day was undoubtedly the opportunity to meet the man of the moment, Daidí na Nollag or Santa Clause who spoke to all of the children and gave them a special Armagh GAA goodie bag for their good behaviour. Armagh GAA would like to thank our funding partner Cooperation Ireland and all those who helped with the Christmas family fun day, including local Irish language group Cairde Teo, O’Neill’s, The GAA Store, Topaz, O’Reilly’s and Simply Fruit. Go raibh maith agat as well to those who sponsored the prizes in our Christmas raffle: Rumour, Armagh City Hotel, The Forge Restaurant at Basil Shield’s, The Quays Shopping Centre, O Connor & co Accountants and Keegan’s Bar, Armagh.

Armagh County chairperson Paul McArdle spoke after the event to express the thanks of the county board. “I would like to thank all of the sponsors and the GAA volunteers who helped make sure our Christmas party was a great success. Go raibh maith agaibh to the young GAA members from Cúchullain Hurling Club, Wolfe Tone GAC and Middletown GAC who brought the children around the stadium and helped with the arts, music, facepainting and Irish language workshops. I am also very grateful to Daidí na Nollag who took time out of his extremely busy schedule to come down to the Athletic Grounds and meet our younger supporters and he has assured me that they will all be happy on Christmas morning.” Guíonn CLG Ard Mhacha Nollaig mhaith agus bliain úr faoi shéan ar ár mbaill, ar ár dtacadóirí agus ar ár gcairde uilig. Armagh GAA wishes all of our members, supporters and friends a very happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
