Armagh senior footballers exited the All-Ireland championship at the first hurdle on Saturday, when they lost out to Laois on a scoreline of 1-10 to 0-10. While the sides were level at half time, a disappointing second half by the Orchardmen allowed Laois to gain the upper hand and move on to the next round of the qualifiers.
Meanwhile, Armagh minor footballers also experienced disappointment, after an extra-time defeat to 2015 champions, Derry. Armagh led at one stage in the first half by five points, but Derry buoyed by a goal and a couple of great saves from their goalkeeper, pulled ahead, but a score in injury time from Cathair McGeary meant that extra time was needed. Unfortunately for the Orchardmen, Derry dominated the extra time, outscoring their opponents by 0-8 to 0-2, to secure their place in the Ulster final.
