Armagh Minors moved joint top of the Ulster Minor Football League Group B with a deserved victory over neighbours Down. The Orchard youngsters followed up on last weeks victory over Monaghan with a good team performance in Silverbridge against a Down outfit who had won their two previous games.
It was the Mourne County who started the brightest taking a three point lead before Captain, Caolan McConville, opened the Armagh account. McConvilles point was quickly followed by another from Connor Cullen to leave the minimum between the sides. Both sides traded points over the remainder of the half before a point right on the stroke of half time ensured Down would have a two point lead at the break. Half time Armagh 0-4 Down 0-6.
The second half started at a frantic pace with both sides exchanging points, the Armagh point coming from half time substitute Conor Murphy who replaced the injured Vincey Brady. The Orchard Minors then took control of the game when Paul Quinn found the net. Armagh then kicked three points before a late point from Down left a goal between them. Although Down pushed forward looking a goal, the Armagh Defence held strong, as they had done the whole game. The referee blew the final whistle which saw the game finish Armagh 1-8 Down 0-8.
