The St Cillian’s club in Whitecross recently held a homecoming celebration for the Ó Dúill family, following their exploits at the World Handball Championships held in Canada. The club welcomed family members and club members to recognise the fantastic achievements of James, Fiachra, Cailíosa and Maighréad. Fiachra became Whitecross’ latest world champion, having won gold in the boys Under 11 doubles. His father, James, and older sister Cailíosa added silver medals to the family’s haul. Club chairperson Phelim McGuinness congratulated the Doyle family for their achievements and for putting St Cillian’s Whitecross on the map and club stalwart and proud father and grandfather, Seán Reavey spoke of the role of handball within the GAA.
Armagh handballers had a hugely successful world championships with Clann Éireann handballers also winning a large haul of medals. The Lurgan club is celebrating the huge success of their underage members who brought a total of eight gold medals and four silvers home from the world championships.
