FOUR Ulster GAA Handball Titles

Clann Eireann’s girls, coached by Pedsy McMahon captured four Ulster GAA Handball titles on Sunday in Kingscourt, Co. Cavan.

U-15 Singles
The U-15 Singles was won by Number 1 seed Dearbhla Coleman. After winning the first game 15-13, Dearbhla found herself 13-8 in arrears in the second game against Michaela McCartan, Tyrone. The young Armagh starlet dug deep and amazingly came back, not allowing the match to go to a tie-breaker, capturing the title 15-13.

U-15 Doubles
Meabh McCambridge and Beth Doris made it a clean sweep in the U-15 age bracket for Armagh when they won the doubles title. They faced the formidable Antrim pairing of Emma Shannon and Cara Doyle. The young Clann Eireann girls showed their class in the opening game, winning 15-8. They had to fight a little harder in the second to claim their gold medals, 15-13.

U-16 Doubles
In the U-16 Doubles Championship, current Junior Colleges (second Level) All-Ireland Champions, Niamh Coleman and Alanna Doran received a walk over from Erin Doyle and Niamh Enright of Antrim. Niamh and Alanna will now go on to the All-Ireland semi-final representing Ulster.

U-17 Doubles
The Girls U-17 Doubles decider saw Kaitlin Fleville and Meabh McMahon join forces to take on Monaghan’s Shauna McAree and Nicole McKenna. Fleville and McMahon gelled well together on the court and won the first game with an emphatic 21-6 scoreline. The girls continued their excellent form to take game two and emerge as Ulster Champions.

Aoibhinn Henderson contested the U-16 Singles Final and Eugene Quinn stars Jordan Murtagh & Eoghan Heaney contested the Boys U-16 Doubles. Although losing out to Tyrone’s Eilise McCrory and Matthew McCartan & Pauric Mullan, respectively, all three players showed great promise.
