Armagh Hurlers all set for Down Test on Sunday
The 2015 Allianz National Hurling league comes about this weekend and with the Armagh senior hurlers under a new management team of Sylvester McConnell, Tada O’Connor, John Crossey and Gabriel O’Kane, things are looking bright for the Orchard County. Armagh will be competing in Division 2b which consists of Down, Meath, Kildare, Mayo and Donegal. On Sunday, Ard Mhacha face nearest rivals An Dún at 2pm in Páirc Esler in Newry, which in itself is a welcome boost, as they won’t be travelling the somewhat longer journey to the Ards. Down in the past have proven to be somewhat of a bogey team for Armagh. However, Armagh will have confidence going into the game, knowing that they overcame their bitter rivals on their way to the Ulster Final in 2011.
Most of the team that lined out that day will also be playing a big part on Sunday with seasoned campaigners like John Corvan (captain), Cahal Carvill, Marty Moan, Ryan Gaffney and Declan Coulter but to name a few. While Down will be penned in as favourites to win the division, along with Cill Dara and An Mhí, Armagh will not give the home side everything their own way on Sunday. Armagh recently reached the final of the inaugural McGurk cup, held by Queen’s University, defeating Down along the way, before coming up against a very strong Derry side who came out on top by a low margin; so Armagh will have a lot of confidence going into this game.
The game throws in at 2pm at Páirc Esler in Newry and we encourage as many Armagh supporters as possible to come out and give our hurlers your support.
