Minor Hurlers to Open Double Header on Saturday

This Saturday sees Armagh minor hurlers and footballers lining out in the Athletic Grounds for a double header; something that hasn’t happened in Armagh for a very long time. With Armagh hurlers seeing off Down in the first league game on a very convincing scoreline of 2.17 to 0.6 at a windswept Abbey CBS in Newry, the young men from the Orchard county should have every confidence going into this game. Armagh turn their attentions to Aontroim who visit this Saturday. Antrim have traditionally provided a stern challenge for Armagh to overcome, but with the Orchard county now dining at the top table of Ulster hurling, they should have nothing to fear. Armagh had a number of debutants for the Down game, most notably Caoimhín Rafferty who hit 0.3 from play, Jordan Murtagh with a goal from midfield and Dylan Murray at the back who defended very well throughout. They also had the old guard of Aaron Fox, Dylan Mc Kenna, Michael Doran, Paudie Mallon, Conlath Lavery and Dean Gaffney to rely on in very testing conditions. Our minors have been training very hard from the turn of the year and have also had very good numbers working off a panel of nearly 40 lads so it’s no surprise that they coped so well in their first outing. Should they be able to record another win on Saturday, it will put them in a very strong position in the league. Ádh mór ar na bainisteoirí agus ar fhoirean Ard Mhacha. Good luck to the Armagh management team and the players on Saturday. The game will throw in at 12 noon in the Athletic Grounds, with the minor footballers facing An Cabhán at 2pm.
